So I’ve had a really interesting week. Currently, my dormitory situation is a suite style, which includes 2 bedrooms which contain two people each, a tiny little living room, a barely useable kitchen, and a bathroom. It’s April (which is really hard to believe) and I’ve already lived with these three girls since September. My roommate’s name is Laurie, and she’s a little Filipino cheerleader. My suite mates are Therese, a sorority girl with an abusive boyfriend, and Mallory, an overwieght girl from the city who swears like a sailor and smokes marlboros. Pretty much until last week we got along pretty well. We weren’t particularly friends ( they have absolutely no common interests with me), but we always got along and would have occasional bonding sessions. But that is all completely over.

It starts off, I started seeing this guy, Michael, maybe a month and a half or 2 months ago, so I haven’t been around my room much lately. I’d say I spend about 4 hours a day there, so its safe to say I’m hardly there. I mostly use it is a place to shower, change, and do homework.

So last Thursday, April 3, 2008 ( I know, hard to believe, its still going on) I alerted my roommates that I was going to have people over. They said okay, but I don’t think they really knew. Laurie had 2 friends in from out of town, but they were gone when my friends arrived. Michael was already there at around 6, and about twenty minutes later, Cool Erik, Godam, Dang, Addison, and Erin arrived. We baked some brownies and made some tea. Mallory and Therese were planning on having people over around 9, so at 9:15 before any of their friends arrived, we did all the dishes and got the hell out of there.

The rest of the weekend went on, and I didn’t really see the roommates, because at night I was out, and during the day they were sleeping. Sunday I went hiking, so I didn’t see them. Laurie also left Sunday for a week long national cheerleading tournament in Daytona, Florida. Later that evening, Michael came over and we made some rice and ate pineapple.

I left the pot on the stove that night, and monday had a nine o’clock class, so I didn’t wash the dish that morning. After having class all day, and actually going ( unlike the roommates), I had a paper to write. I was going to do my dish after writing my paper, I guess it’s weird to make school work priority over dishes. Therese comes and knocks on my door ” Would you do your dish?” When people tell me to do stuff, it makes me just not want to do it, but I said I would because she’s been sick, so I figured she was just in a bad mood. So I go do my dish, but by this time it’s like 8 pm, so I’m hungry. I go to the pantry and grab a box of pasta, not really looking at it.

Therese in her tired bitchy way says ” is that my pasta”

I reply, ” I don’t know, does it matter?”

She follows ” Well I think it’s mine, would you make me some?”

So I do, even though its just half a box and I really dont want to share. Then she doesn’t even offer to do the dishes after I cooked for her. So, anyways, I just did the pot not looking for any confrontation. Michael calls and I go over to his place.

Tuesday… everythings going good. Michael comes over around 9. We chit chat, watch a movie, and then fall asleep. I wake up and walk into the living room and its really clean, I got really confused as to why it was clean, my roommates are slobs who never get off the couch. I walk Michael out since I don’t have class till 2:30, I turn to my door it says

” We cleaned for our moms, don’t make a mess. By the way do your own dishes”

*side note.. mom’s weekend was the next weekend* Anyways, First of all, that note was extremely rude. Second, I’m by far the cleanest one in the apartment. I’m not always the best about doing dishes, but I never leave clutter anywhere like the do. I always clean friday afternoons. And on top of that, last time my parents came, I alerted them a week in advance, cleaned up, and when my parents go there, there were 4 kids sleeping on the floor, two trash bags full of beer cans and dishes everywhere, so basically I’m thinking “Are you kidding me?” This made me so mad, I just wanted to trash the place, but I liked that it was clean, so I needed to make some sort of clever retalliation. At Coffee, my friend Erin and I discussed possibilities including filling their entire room with crumpled newspaper. My friend Cody, suggested catching a squirrell on campus and letting it loose in their room. Squirrells, however, bite. So instead, we went and got a hampster, which we named Sebastian. By the way, he’s super cute.

The next morning I wake up, there’s another note on the door, ” Do you dishes. Hint: all the dishes in the sink are yours. Or I will put them in your bed.” None of the dishes were mine. I was writing a really mean note back when I saw Therese walking to class and I was pretty much like ” What is this?” this is so rude.. you can’t talk to me like a human being? and she replies with you’ve been so rude lately. By rude, she means I haven’t been doing her dishes? So I stopped talking to her because she was being dumb. Ten minutes later I get a text message from her that reads

” You cooked for yourself using my food number one and number two i didn’t write it but we are all sick of your disrespectful attitude towards us. You are the last thing on my list of importance so please spare me to drama”

I hadn’t read anything that immature since I was twelve. It must be a sorority thing. Then I decided, if Therese has such an issue with sharing, so do I, so I took all my food, dishes, decorations, toiletries from the central living areas and put them in my room. Then I mismatched all their dvds, which is a lot.

The next morning I got back from class and Mallory was sitting on the couch and asked what was going on. She said that they were mad because I had people over when Laurie had friends over and I bought a hampster without asking her and hamsters were dirty and loud ( which is very true). She went on about the dishes and I was just like if you want the dishes clean, you can clean them as well as I can, when I want the dishes clean, I clean them. She said whatever and walked away.

I felt bad about not telling laurie about the hampster and said sorry about having people over, and if she had a problem with the hampster, we would figure it out. She replied saying that she wasn’t mad about me having people over, but Mallory and Therese were because they were going to have people over and that she was fine with the hampster.

So basically, that one night in months when I had friends over spawned their anger over the stupidest little things and then they blamed me or things that weren’t even true. It’s amazing the immature people you find in college, but only 3 weeks left and Laurie should be back today, so I can totally make it

Wow.. a terrifically witty title, but this is just an entry to state what this blog is about. I’m a student in art history, fashion, and cinema studies, so not only will this blog focus on my daily life and ideas about the world I’m living in, but also those topics that I’m interested in (Just wait for fashion week, you’ll understand).

Currently, I’m attending the University of Illinois, which means most of my culture comes from occasional visits to Chicago…. or sadly… the internet. We do, however, boast an incredibly large library collection, so that is one of this university’s saving graces. I only say this, so when you expect stories of running for subways, attending gallery openings and having lunch with celebrities, unfortunately you are in the completely wrong place.

Oh and by the way, I don’t know anything about Origami
